>I've wanted to see someone buy a Tsunami frame.
there's a guy here who bought a single speed frame from them, he was posting regularly but not in a while. he was happy with it, usually people would ask him when they saw it. Australian, so the shipping wasn't as bad

>>1995301
a lot of the cost is stripping the frame and then rebuilding after it's painted . either you pay someone to do it or you do it. it's a huge project. so is the paint, but you could sand the paint to get it into a rough surface and rattlecan spray it and clear if you want. I would. the idea is keeping the old paint and just surfacing it is like using it for primer. there's a guy who posted this very thing a few days ago, maybe in the build thread? red white and blue frame became black and pink fade.
whereas a pro job, they'll strip off the paint, give it a special wash, prime, wet sand, paint, decal, clear, rebuild the bike, and it starts at $1200. shit, maybe they don't even do the unbuilding or rebuilding. also there may not be a shop near you that does it at all.
>>
>>1995315
>Personally, I find I don't mind whatever color a bike is after I ride it long enough.

I'm the opposite, unless I love the bike, I want to change asap cos I get tired of things. And being autistic, having a crap paint job would be upsetting.

>They put clear over the stickers to preserve them.
No idea what for. Literally no one has heard of sERiOus, and they are generally viewed as some knock-off brand. Surprisingly my series of touring bikes was pretty well put together, and now is quite a performer with all the necessary upgrades. I just think the paint is bringing it down.

>>1995347
I can't find that guy's post.

>$1200
That sounds realistic, I live in Swedecuckistan where any kind of hired specialised jobs are charged through the ass. For that price I can get a Thorn/VSF/ touring frame easily, or even get a custom one built.

The problem with a frame swap is what to do with the old one. I suppose someone could buy it as a cheapish steel gravel frame, but I would get near fuck all for it.

How much does a military Lt pilot make there? Why would they quit to become a civilian pilot and earn so little as OP claims?
>>
>>1995320
bad weather, lack of students or you work for a shitty flight school that doesn't maintain their aircraft you can easily make this little as a CFI in the US. I have seen some 141 schools where its disturbingly prevalent.

less so at part 61 schools that have in-house A&P's. there seems to be a truly unending supply of dreamers and novices who are willing to spend hundreds of hours over the course of multiple years earning their PPL's. the planes are better maintained at these places almost 100% of the time.

CFII's worry about this a lot less overall.
>>
Used to work for an aerial imagery company and our pilots were all students looking to farm hours. And yea we made sure we paid them truly as little as possible.

FedEx is so fucking incompetent, they lost my package again because they delivered it to the wrong door and customer service spent the last day thumbing their ass "tracking" my lost package. The competency crisis is seeping into all industries thanks to corporate greed, it's frustrating being a human from the before times, to see how much everyone doesn't give a shit anymore. How much everyone is trying to pull a quick one on another just to make short term gains at the expense of long term sustainability. Society is crumbling because people don't give a fuck anymore

This thread is for talking about railways, and things related to railways, in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Trips, tracks, tickets, trains and stations, they're all good - making up rules is boring so let's just be normal. Questions are, of course, most welcome.

If you feel like travelling, head over to National Rail Enquiries (nationalrail.co.uk/); tell it where you're leaving from and where you're going to, and it'll tell you how you're going to get there; then it'll hand you over to a train operator to buy a ticket. The golden rule is that it doesn't matter which train operator you buy a ticket from, as they'll all sell you a ticket from anywhere to anywhere, for the same price. If you're a visitor from overseas, your best option is probably Trainline (thetrainline.com/) - they charge a booking fee on top of the ticket price, but they'll accept just about any payment card. There's also trip.com/, who are apparently a 'thing' with overseas students: I've not used these myself, so please speak up with any thoughts.

Here's a few links:
~The Man in Seat 61 (seat61.com/) - easily the best rail travel resource out there.
~Geoff Marshall (youtube.com/@geofftech2) - Likes trains. Mostly harmless.
~A Visual History of Railway Rolling Stock in Great Britain (gaelan.me/br-stock/)
~Realtimetrains (realtimetrains.co.uk/) - live train timetables: ideal for keeping on top of ETAs and platforms.
~TIGER (tiger.worldline.global/home/) - live station departure boards.
~Traksy (traksy.uk/live/) - live signalling information.
~Openrailwaymap (openrailwaymap.org/) - railway infrastructure, mapped.

What's happening?

They've completed one of the viaduct sets on the way into Birmingham Curzon Street, here's a drone's-eye-view:

...poor choice of soundtrack I think, but it looks like they're building from (what'll be) the station outwards. Still think it's a crying shame that Ye Olde Curzon Street the First is being left in its current state simply because the refurbishment ran out: give it ten/fifteen years and, like the rest of the project, everyone will be clucking their tongues and shaking their heads at the missed opportunities.

Funny you should say that!

>FINAL designs for a radical revamp of Leicester’s historic railway station have been revealed by the city council.
>Under the plans, the station’s main entrance will be moved from London Road to Station Street, which will be closed to traffic and replaced with a new pedestrianised public plaza.
>Work is now under way to prepare for the demolition of 48a London Road, which stands immediately next to the railway station. This will be complete by late-summer and will create the space needed for the redevelopment to go ahead.
>It will also reveal the original façade of the historic Grade-II listed building. This will be carefully restored to its Victorian glory and form the new entrance, facing directly towards Granby Street and into the city centre.
>Pick up and drop off points, including for hackney cabs. will be relocated from inside the station’s existing covered entrance hall – or porte-cochere – to a new location at the rear of the station, off Fox Street and close to the new entrance.
>The glass-roofed porte-cochère will be completely overhauled to provide an attractive and welcoming place for cafes, bars or retail.
>A new curved ramp, steps and lift will provide easy access to the new entrance and main concourse ticket hall, which will also be remodelled including a wider ticket barrier, to provide more space for passengers. Secure bike storage will be provided underneath the new entrance ramp.
>Outside, a new and now larger public plaza will feature rainwater gardens and new tree planting. The statue of Thomas Cook will be moved a prominent position within the scheme to ensure that it continues to serve as a reminder that Leicester was the birthplace of popular tourism.

Do you enjoy any /n/ games, like city builders and tycoons?
>picrel OpenTTD, the best transportation game
If not a game, what software would you use to make model junctions and rail systems? /diy/ has solidworks, autocad, etc. Unironically a dumb game like OpenTTD seems to be the best option for exercising what you learn in your hobby, at least for free (so, not including real model railways.) It's also just fun as fuck.

i don't want no disc brakes and don't mind shifters on the frame. Why would shitty aluminium frame would be better than sturdy steel?
i don't get why some aluminium bike is $1k when you can get some really decent bike from the 80s for max $200
>>
Whenever I have an extremely basic maintenance task on my bike that anyone who calls himself a cyclist should do at home, I coincidentally suspect there's a really complex problem that I wouldn't feel bad about asking for help on, and I wheel it into the shop.

The shop guys poke and spin and prod and go "it's fine, anything else?", so I go "well, since I'm already here, sigh.... I was gonna do it myself but why the hell not, I guess _____, so knock yourself out man, ha ha, I'm here right? might as well!"

I'm pretty sure they see through my ruse but I'll bet I'm not the only guy with a fragile ego who walks in with a basic bitch maintenance request, and their labor rates are higher than some shops so I don't even feel guilty, but I'm 100% sure this makes me a shit cyclist who should kms immediately, no wonder I'm slow. But faster guys pass me really close so thats a compliment right?

I don't know about shitty aluminum, but good aluminum is pretty nice, and late 90s/early 2000s CAADs and aluminum Treks are $300-$400 all day near me. Really, older shit isn't much cheaper because muh vintage or whatever. But it's heavier, has fewer gears and usually a tighter range, flexier, and I personally like brifters a hell of a lot better than downtube shifters. If you're happy with what you got, though, keep on rockin.

And don't act like the only reason you're concerned about them riding brakeless is because you constantly ride around afraid of them not stopping in time. You're probably the type of dude who would love to seem them ran over for their decisions

>cycling on sidewalks is... le misdemeanor!
>you should drive on the streets with a speed limit under 50 km/h
name a more braindead law than this, jesus fucking christ
99% of people riding bicycles do it all their life
I am convinced the only reason this law exists is so that the ONE time some cop(s) with nothing better to do blocks your path, they can milk you for fines and report all your personal info to the big brother system

the whole fucking point of a bicycle is that you are not a car and that you can go places cars cannot, but carbrained lawyers the want to regulate the shit out of it for some reason, even in le walkable non-carbrained EU city

Is this actually true anywhere? It's a municipal bylaw where I am, the worst thing they can do is tell you to stop it, and they never will because bylaw officers spend 100% of their time on parking enforcement.

yeah, i guess the alfine hubs are on sale for 65 bucks. are there really no external buffer battery systems as opposed to ones that are built into the light itself? a lot of them seem kinda...bad when it comes to flickering even at constant speeds. i know tail lights are pretty low draw, but is 3w even enough to power both a rear and front light that is sufficiently bright enough for pitch black roads?
i was thinking hub to passthrough rechargeable batteries to lights, but it seems like anyone who is doing this is just converting ac to dc and running a higher voltage dc light, which is kind of convoluted. i dunno.
>>
>>1995269
It's fine. As long as you can undo the bolt later, and you have close to the same amount of threads going into your frame, since the threads are what is doing the holding and resisting the caliper adapter yeeting itself out of there.

>>1995281
All I can say is do your research on sizing, and if you are getting a rideable bike(not fixer upper) then ride it around for 10 minutes or so.
It will feel weird to ride compared to a hybrid/mtb. Stick with it, and if something still hurts after 250-500miles the fit needs to be adjusted.
Let us know your height, and inseam to give a rough estimate of what size you will need.

all the lights I have used so far were completely acceptable regarding flicker. At most they would only ever flicker when slowly pushing the bike after it has been stationary for quite some time. You can always piggyback something on this basic installation that does whatever for you but more often than not it adds ghetto aesthetics. On my daily I have the cheap shimano hub, always some fuxon or similar brand front and rear and currently a Kemo USB charger so I can top up my devices when not needing lights.
Maybe check Scholtens website for inspiration, if you can stand THAT amount of tism.
>>
>>1995300
I'm going to get dunked on for this but it sounds to me like you're outrgrowing brooks. They're training wheels for saddles, once you have a basic idea of what you're doing you realize they seem "forgiving" because it's basically impossible to set them up properly so anything is as good (or bad) as anything else.

Seriously?
>goddamn loud-ass ancient TURBOJETS that are archaic to work on and hard to get parts for
>says in the description that a 12 year inspection was done 10 years ago, which means it's already coming up again, and will easily cost the value of the airplane if not more
>high time, high landings, could be close to a gear life limit or something that would, again, approach the value of the airplane in cost
>parts will be a pain in the ass to source and get and be extremely expensive (see the pattern)
>pain in the fucking ass to work on
>tiny as fuck, nobody can get up to stretch their legs in flight, thankfully the range is pisspoor
>avionics are an ancient clusterfuck that will be IMPOSSIBLE to get parts for, let alone find people who know how to troubleshoot them
You will be paying 300,000 grand a year for an airplane that's LISTED for sale just barely over a third of that. All that for an old ass jet that could break in the middle of bumfuck nowhere, and now you need to wait months for a part, so that you can pay hundreds of thousands for it and the AoG guy to install it.

Pretty intense passion project of an airplane. If you have a strong background in tailwheel airplanes and find the right 195 (research this off of this website) it could work out as a solid 4 place airplane, but there are more practical options at the price point that most 195s tend to go for. Remember that the 195 is a design from the 1930s and so there will be a number of deficiencies when compared to a modern design, but also last I looked (several years ago) 195s were much cheaper than 250k. That being said, they're beautiful airplanes and I love seeing them around. If you're lucky enough to have 250k lying around and some flying experience already, I echo the other anon and suggest you get a more forgiving tailwheel and put a serious amount of time on that and go from there. If you're fortunate enough to have a lot of tailwheel time and that amount of money, then you wouldn't be here asking us about a 195. Either way, happy hunting for your new-to-you airplane, anon.

I've been debating selling my car for a bike and I want to know what you think /n/. All my life all I've ever owned are cheap ass big box store bikes and I thought that's just how bikes were. I thought the expensive ones at bike shops were just for hardcore riders. Well, I decided to check one out as there are several in my town because riding is quite big here. Well, I don't need to tell you guys how much better these bikes were. And it had me thinking.

I'm a tubby broke neet. I need to save more money and get in shape. I can get somewhere around $7000 for my car, enough to get a really solid bike and have plenty extra. I want to know if anyone has ever done this. I've thought about it for several days, and the ONLY reason I can think against it is "driving is easier". There are bike paths and lanes everywhere in my town. It snows maybe 2-3 weeks a year. Grocery store is a 5 minute bike ride away. Has anyone done this before?

I didn't say I wanted to put my feet flat on the ground. You said that. So I'm not gonna bother with the rest of your post since you didn't bother with mine.

Damn so /n/ has their own version of "3k civic" guy.
>i can't understand selling my car to purchase one
You might not do it and that's fine. But if you bothered to read you would understand it.

Thanks to those who were helpful but the shitposters are here so I'm out. Cheers

Bumping because op is actually trying to live the /n/ life instead of trying to impose his control freak mentality on others by corrupting the law and turning it into power armor for rapacious developers, like the average yimby urbanist

based, also based op
daydreaming about doing this to save money and rack up mileage but desu I'd probably have to change jobs or live in an even smaller town than my current very small town. on the other hand I may change jobs anyway so.

if you don't care what people think of you, a small bike trailer is cheap and hauls 300 to 400lbs of stuff.
